PAO FY2025 Financial Report: Our First Year in Numbers
We have just finished our first Annual General Meeting to close the books and talk about how Python Asia Organization MTÜ (registry number 80644409) performed in 2025. This post carries the financial statements — the balance sheet and the profit-and-loss — for the year, and my own thoughts as representative director on how we did.
My Thoughts on 2025
To be frank, I thought we would be far worse off.
We started with something totally new. My vision was to take the trust, the connections, and the mostly unorganized inertia that already existed across the Asian Python communities, and turn it into something more coherent and organized — something that could benefit the community in more impactful ways.
The initial members had to put up their own money. All of us pooled EUR 4,000 for the initial membership fees, and on top of that, some of us loaned money to the organization to keep it afloat. Our corporate and individual sponsors, the people who bought t-shirts, and everyone who donated all helped keep the ship afloat.
After one year, we have managed to:
- Work with a community to hold our first regional PythonAsia Conference.
- Start initiatives such as the online Charity Talks, which run twice a year and are open to the whole region, featuring speakers who mostly contribute technically to the Python ecosystem.
- Launch the Python Across Asia talks, a community-focused series that introduces organizers, their plans, and their upcoming events.
- Be present at most of the PyCons held in this region.

On The Grants
A core part of PAO's mission is to support the community through grants: mainly to travel and participate in intra-regional conferences, and to a lesser extent to support meetups and smaller conferences around the region that have a regional flavor.
We're not there yet: We can't even afford to participate in conferences to promote the region without the help of our other community members, but this is something I hope we can do within the next three years.

2025 was a strong first year. Landing close to breakeven in our very first year shows we managed funds responsibly, reinvesting what we raised straight into the mission while growing at a sustainable pace. My hope is to bring on more sponsors and build a steadier, more diversified funding base, one that carries us confidently year after year rather than event to event. I'm proud of what we built this year. We delivered on what we set out to do, and now we have a clear, exciting path heading into next year.

Since this is our first year, the performance is well within an acceptable range, and both our credibility and revenue are growing, albeit gradually. I believe we can make steady improvements, so continuing our activities at a measured pace would be the best approach. My goal is to attract more sponsors and supporters over time so that we can step-by-step expand the scope of our work.

PAO is still in its early days, and I think that even as a young organization we stayed small, lean, and reasonably nimble this year. Connecting more Python friends across Asia will take a lot of help — from many hands, not just ours. If your organization uses Python, we would love to hear from you.
